Muscle Building Supplements for Young Athletes

My son is a gifted athlete. He plays football, basketball, and baseball very well, and can hold his own in just about any other sport as well. All of his coaches think he has a legitimate shot of being offered a full scholarship to play either baseball or football at a Division 1 university. He has the talent and the grades, but might be at a disadvantage because of his size. He'll be entering his junior year of high school in the fall, and is not nearly as bulky or muscular as most of his teammates. So to improve his chances of playing at the next level, we're currently looking for safe and effective muscle building supplements.

Some people might think that high school is too young to start taking muscle building supplements, but I disagree. We're not going for steroids here. We're looking for all-natural products that will help boost the body's natural processes to develop muscles as quickly as possible. As a parent, there's no way I would ever do anything to endanger my child's health, so after we narrow down our search to two or three natural muscle building supplements, I'm going to take the products to a doctor to make sure the pills or powder are 100 percent safe to use.

I know there's still a chance that my son will hit a growth spurt in the next year or two, but neither of us wants to wait around to see if that will happen. There are very legitimate reasons to start using muscle building supplements now, including injury prevention. For instance, football is a dangerous game because of all the high impact hits at full speed. But the danger quotient goes up significantly for scrawny players, as their bodies simply aren't equipped to withstand so much punishment for so long. My son needs to play in order to attract the attention of college coaches and scouts, but we certainly don't want him to get injured during the season.

We've talked to the head coach about our plans, and he agrees that muscle building supplements are a good idea at this point. He's going to talk to some athletic trainers, other coaches, and current college players to get some product recommendations, and then he'll pass the info on to us. In addition, he's going to put my son on a supervised weight-training regimen to help move things along.

It seems that muscle building supplements have gotten a bad rap in recent years, thanks in large part to pro ballplayers using illegal or banned substances. But there are many all-natural products on the market that can deliver great results without any bad side effects. I firmly believe that getting my son started on a doctor-approved supplement will help him get a college scholarship, and maybe even allow him to achieve his dream of becoming a professional athlete.
