Latin travel in the 21st century

Latin travel is one of the great adventures of the modern world. From Miami to Tierra del Fuego, latin America is filled with distinct cultures and adventures, people who share a largely uniform language but a vastly different past.

Latin travel can be anything you make of it. It can be a trip to Miami or south Texas, or really anywhere in the southwest. You can go to places in the Caribbean like Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic, or to Central America. You can explore Mexico - a vast country with many different cultures housed in its borders. Up north you have the great Chihuahuan Desert, which stretches from south Texas into the heart of Mexico. The people there are a blend of American Indian, European (primarily spanish, french and irish) and African. The largest cities in the area are Ciudad Juarez, which is right over the border from El Paso, Texas, and Chihuahua itself.

Central Mexico is more mountainous, and the capital - Mexico City, or Tenocticlan as it was called in the Aztec language - sits over a mile above sea level. Mexico City is one of the largest cities in terms of population in the entire western hemisphere. It boasts a thriving nightlife, multiple colleges, history that dates back thousands of years, and easy access to some of the most spectacular sights in the Americas. When it comes to Latin travel, Mexico City is one of the stops you must make.

Of course that's not all there is to Mexico - you could check out the resorts of Cancun, the rain forests of the rest of the Yucatan, the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, et cetera et cetera. There's really no end to the type of adventures you can seek.

Beyond Mexico is Central America, with its divergence of cultures, histories and governments. Rife with coups and political unrest in the 1980s, Central America has calmed down some since then and is now home to tourist destinations of every shape an size. Recently Costa Rica was named the world's happiest country, and who could argue - their GDP and employment statistics are good, they have both a pacific and atlantic coast, mountains, forests, and a winning soccer team. Who could want more?

Beyond Central America is the vast expanse of South America. With the Andes on the west coast, the Amazon cutting a swathe through the northern heart of the continent, and the great plains of Argentina to the south, South America offers a diversity of Latin travel not seen anywhere else in the region.

So check online or with your local travel agent to try to find a deal that best suits your needs, and enjoy!
