The women keep trying to find ways to outdo one another and the men can't believe their luck. The question is though, what inspires women today to up the ante so single-mindedly?

Well, it's the same thing that inspires people to push the envelope in everything else people hate boundaries and they keep pushing at them. Ordinarily, women are made to conform to certain minimum standards of decorum. On Halloween night though, they can just be anything they want and no one's going to be able to point a finger at them.

But you do have to admit that the push towards raunchiness isn't confined to slutty Halloween costumes. The advertisements are more daring every year; clothing designers try their best to become more daring by the year too. Perhaps the way to understand this trend towards sluttiness in women's Halloween costumes is to see that it isn't a Halloween thing, at all. Perhaps daring fashion everywhere and women simply choose to do more of the same with their Halloween costumes.

Of course, it is hardly any defense of this trend to simply say that it's in keeping with the way the rest of the world is. Why should women do this while men more or less keep on dressing up like superheroes? If we like to defend slutty Halloween costumes by calling them an outlet for sexual expression, how about considering why men don't seem to need things like that?

Perhaps this is all just a phase a step forward in how women begin to learn to be comfortable in their skins. Halloween right now gives them the ability to be as free as they want one day. With time, they could learn to be what they want every day.

One of the worst mistakes men can make on Halloween night looking at these slutty Halloween costumes is to assume that these women are secretly this way inside. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most of the time, these women are just having fun acting out. That's far as it goes.
