Cheap Christmas decorations for a beautifully decorated home!

For Christians, Christmas is undeniably one of the favorite holidays of the year. Everything seems magical and beautiful, even for grown-ups! Outdoor neighborhood Christmas decorations give us the opportunity to go out and, walking or driving, catch that warm, glowing spirit of the season. Festive gatherings further enhance our desire for sharing and giving, leaving most of us to say to heck with (what) diet! Our Christmas decorations and all that wonderful food make us feel cheery, generous and desirous of the momentary, but hopefully possible Peace on Earth. While we're not even in the mood to complain about finances, finding a few ideas for cheap Christmas decorations can help us celebrate a bit more at the table. Let's take a look at some of these ideas that you, too, might find appealing.

During the early part of the 20th century, many Christmas decorations, both for the home and the table, were hand made, due simply to a lack of commercially made decorations. We can still have the old-time nostalgia with a modern bonus, with cheap Christmas decorations we make ourselves. Home made decorations also make a fine family activity when everyone gets involved. Here's our list of favorites:

1. Who would think that a single orange, bristling with whole cloves, could scent the surrounding air so finely? Begin with your orange, using a needle threaded with waxed heavy-duty thread to form a 'hanger', which you can suspend from almost anywhere from the ceiling to the top of a window, the fireplace mantel, or even from the tree. Hang the orange (temporarily) from a cup hook while you stick individual cloves into the orange the sharp end of the clove makes this an easy task. Keep working until the orange itself can barely be seen. The scent of the orange is released through the hole made by the cloves. When finished, tie a short length of ribbon into a bow at the top of the orange. These keep for a long while.

2. Have you ever tried your hand at hand made candles, soaps and potpourri? These require but few materials, are easy to make and are, indeed, cheap Christmas decorations that don't look, act or feel cheap! It's quite easy to find instructions and 'recipes' online. (Do a simple Google query: 'how to make ' for tons of results.

3. Here's another old-fashioned idea for cheap Christmas decorations. Pop up a big batch of popcorn, and string it, with needle and waxed thread, into garlands for the tree. It does take some time, but many hands make for quick work here. BTW, kids love doing this. An older sibling can supervise younger children.

4. Visit a fabric shop. At this time of year, they have many fabrics on the bolt that form pictures with themes of the season. These panels are usually sold economically, measured by the panel. Trim the cloth with lace, ribbon, rick-rack or hem facing, and you've got a nice wall hanging, great in the kitchen, bathroom or children's rooms.

5. Purchase some fake pine greens from a crafts shop, or gather your own real greens. Wire them together and shape into a wreath or garland you can use to wrap stair banisters. Add a few tiny Christmas ornaments and a little ribbon or lace here and there, for yet more classy looking, but cheap Christmas decorations.

6. While you're at the crafts store, check out the large selection of dried and silk flowers. These cheap Christmas decorations look terrific in strategically placed vases around your home. They're also great as place setting decorations at the dining table.

7. Now's the time to get out your Christmas lights! If they, by chance, need to be unsnarled, get busy! Christmas lights set the mood in more places than on the tree. Kids and grown-up kids, love seeing windows decked with lights all around. Depending on how much you love lights, you may need to get several more boxes they're cheap enough to qualify as cheap Christmas decorations with panache! Line the hallway, string them around mirrors. No need for night lights with this strategy.

You can see that you needn't spend a fortune to make your home truly lovely for this lovely time of year. Cheap Christmas decorations to the rescue, I say!
