Gaining Muscle Mass Should You Go for the Arms

Gaining Muscle Mass Should You Go for the Arms Race or Should You Go with Losing Fat First?

If you're working out (or you hope to) in a regular way, chances are that like a lot of other people in your position, you're doing it to gain a muscular body that you can show off. Well, here's something to know gaining muscle mass, while there's a lot to be said for it, isn't everything. Losing fat is a good part of it too.

The thing is, that if you're gaining muscle mass to look big and attractive, no one is going to be able to see any definition to those muscles, as there is going to be a layer of fat covering them. Now you're probably telling yourself that this is old news. The thing is though that really living by this rule should save you a great deal of trouble. If you work on losing the layer of fat first, you'll find that smaller muscles (that you spend less effort on) can bring you the same kinds of visual appeal.

The choice is yours. Work really hard on gaining muscle mass and look small, or lose the fat, work out less hard, and look even bigger.

So its quite clear that losing fat is a good idea. There's one more question there to go though. Which do you do first build those muscles or lose the fat?

Let's face it, with most people, it isn't easy to get them to exercise hard enough to gain muscle. Why, it's hard enough to get them to do any exercise to lose fat. If a person is going to dedicate himself to working out, hes probably going to do it for the excitement of gaining muscle mass. A person whos training for muscle mass is probably just slightly pudgy not fat or anything. The prospect of working out first to lose the fat really wouldn't be motivating enough.

With that in mind, it would be easy to say that working out to gain muscle mass should be the first thing to do. To keep anyone engaged in what they're doing.

If you made sure that you weren't taking in any more calories than you absolutely had to to fuel your arms race, would you keep from gaining any fat? If you're only eating nearly exactly as much as you need for your muscle gaining binge to make sure that you keep fat loss from accumulating, about the most you'll manage is an extra pound a month. You will find yourself on a long-term muscle gain cycle, not a short term one. So even while you try to not eat too much, to be sure you dont eat too little. About 3500 calories should do.
