On the Market for a Gadget Gift? Try this Tablet

On the Market for a Gadget Gift? Try this Tablet PC Comparison for Help

If you had to pick an electronic gadgets to gift someone this Christmas, a tablet would be one of the least risky moves to make. At $200 for the cheapest model, it's far cheaper than getting an expensive laptop. A tablet is far safer to bet to make than, say, buying someone an iPhone and committing them to a couple of years monthly fees. And let's face it, a tablet is just a cool thing to have. So let's make a quick tablet PC comparison to see what would make for the best gift.

In the world of the tablet, you have but three OS options Apple's IOS, Google's android and Windows 7. The Windows 7 platform is just beginning to get its act together. So until it does, let's just concentrate on the iPad and on Android in this tablet PC comparison.

Of course, if you have no problem spending $500 and upwards, Apple's iPad to is the hands-down favorite. Certainly, you could go with something like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that is as wonderful in the hardware department as Apples offering is. But the Galaxy 10.1, still runs Android 3.1, which is not the latest version. With more than 100,000 apps to pick from, and an operating system that updates itself automatically, the iPad is hard to compete with.

What do you do though if your budget doesn't nearly go that far? Well, let's take a look at the lower end of the market that's filled with great and innovative new products. The Amazon Kindle Fire is the most attractive product on offer right now, of course. It isn't just that it's a full $100 cheaper than anything else on the market. It's that to begin with, it's a beautifully-constructed 7-inch machine with great specs. But it doesn't just give you access to the Android Market. It also gives you tightly-designed access to the entire Amazon universe of books and entertainment.

At a slightly higher price point, you get the 80 G9 tablet from the French company Archos. It ups the ante in the specs department ever so slightly with a screen that's an inch bigger, a USB port, a slightly faster CPU and a slightly better battery. You only pay $100 more for this.

What about the alternative BlackBerrys Playbook? Well, certainly at first, the BlackBerry Playbook was a tough sell. The software was kind of buggy, they had the most inconvenient way in mind by which you had to connect to the Internet to look at your mail (you had to connect your phone to the machine) and their app market was terribly deficient. These days though, they've managed to get around the problem by slashing prices quite hard. It sells for about $350 and up. They've managed to fix up the operating system too, which is far more stable these days, for instance.

So which brand is the best in this tablet PC comparison? Well, it would have to be the iPad and the Kindle Fire, of course.
