George Walker Bush was the leader of the free world for eight years. He was the most powerful man in the world for much of that time. He started two wars and ended none. He presided over the biggest financial melt-down in more than seventy years. He inspired movies, documentaries, and shame. And he once almost lost his life to a fiendish pretzel.
Yes, more than anything else, the 43rd president of the united states left us a legacy of laughter. Ok, maybe it's not so funny if you're one of the troops who left a limb in Iraq, or one of the millions who lost your job or your pension thanks to his brainless, Friedmanite economic machinations, but damn could that guy get a room of otherwise serious people to bust a gut laughing. The writing and archiving of George Bush jokes has become a cottage industry unto itself.
Check this one out from About.com:
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."
"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.
Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"
That's one of my favorite George Bush jokes, and there are thousands more where it came from. A google search will bring up plenty of Bush jokes, bush parodies, Bush videos, Bush mis-statements... everything you ever wanted to see or hear about the guy is there to be found online. Like I said, it's a cottage industry at this point. People are making their living off of Bush jokes and have done so for the better part of a decade.
He's even inspired a new word, "Bushism." Wikipedia defines a Bushism as "a neologism that refers to a number of unconventional words, phrases, pronunciations, malapropisms, and semantic or linguistics errors that have occurred in and defined the public speaking of former United States President George W. Bush..." So basically, the joke's on him for sounding like a moron. Any time you stumble over your words, mix your metaphors or commit a malapropism of the highest order... you've just committed a Bushism.
