The Best Place to Retire may not be in a

The Best Place to Retire may not be in a House, a Community or even a City

If you are thinking of picking a retirement home for when you finally hang your hat, reading up about the best place to retire, you often come across advice on how there are new options that open up all the time. Some people will tell you about how the super-luxury retirement communities being built in all the sunny places in the South are the best. Some will say that you can head over to places like Colombia to make your dollar go twice as far as it ever will in America. Others wonder if moving to Malaysia or Eastern Europe wouldn't be such a bad idea for the way it makes the dollar go even farther. All the while though, there are some whose answer to the question of what the best place to retire is, will go to something mysterious like everywhere, and nowhere.

Retiring baby boomers, more than ever before, are deciding that the best retirement place to pick can be in a luxury motorhome out on the road. Boomers, or many of them at least, are beginning to wonder about what fun it can be staying nailed to a spot in a second home or a winter retreat. They've stayed rooted to one place their whole lives and they wonder what it must be like to live a completely different kind of life on the road.

If life on the road seems awfully tedious, you'd be surprised how being surrounded by a luxury that could rival a five-star hotel could change your mind. Class A motor homes, the best there are, have been selling like crazy this year. The market actually grew by nearly 10% this year (which happens to be kind of a recession year).

Wonderfully tricked-out motorhomes have always been popular with retirees. Come to think of it, they couldn't be popular with anyone else, considering how expensive they can get at a quarter-million dollars as the price of entry. The wonderful thing about retiring in a motorhome is this: you get that business jet kind of luxury. Everythings bespoke and installed with a kind of fit and finish people just love. And then, the luxury can be quite inimitable. Get a 30-foot Winnebago for $500,000 and you could end up with two huge flat screens, a luxury bathroom, slide outs, custom-built furniture, handcrafted cabinets, granite countertops, and all the adventure sport equipment you need, all ready to slide out the touch of a button. You kind of feel like James Bond and Bill Gates all at the same time.

And then, no matter what the best place to retire might be that you might routinely find, how can you beat opening your window in the morning and looking at the expanse of the Yosemite National Park one day and Grand Canyon National Park the next?

Sometimes, the best retirement options come to you when you kind of think of the box.
